Learn Together, Grow Together

The cohort program is a one-year virtual experiential learning and community connecting initiative that empowers, educates and builds support for public gardens to enrich their knowledge of IDEA principles and activate intention. The program was designed and structured based on a needs assessment facilitated in early 2022 involving public gardens across North America. The Needs Assessment Summary Report provides comprehensive insight into the barriers and challenges we face, and opportunities for change.

The program includes instructor-led learning modules, topical discussions and project-based learning. Participants meet in a group setting creating an opportunity for participants to connect and amplify learning along with peers and other cultural institutions on a similar journey.

Participation is open to public gardens of all sizes and operating budgets, whether they are early on or further developed in their IDEA journey, including arboreta, public lands and parks, in addition to botanic, historic and pleasure gardens.

The requirements of the program include:

• Letters of Commitment from the board chair and Executive Director/CEO (or equivalent)
• Prioritization and participation for the entirety of the one-year program
• Participation requires a board member and the Executive Director/CEO (or equivalent) and at least one staff member
• Identifying and implementing an IDEA-related project within your organization during the program
